Sumitomo Rubber Industry Co., Ltd., founded in 1909 and headquartered in Kobe, Japan, is the world's sixth largest tire company. Sumitomo introduced "Dunlop" tires to the Chinese market in the 1990s, and set up its first factory in China in Changshu, Jiangsu Province in 2002. In 2010, Xingsha industrial base was selected to set up its second factory in China
Sumitomo tire project in Japan, located in Xingsha industrial base, has a total land area of about 1004 mu, which is developed in two phases. The total investment of phase I of the project is about US $300million, mainly producing high-end radial tires for cars. At present, the construction of the company is nearing the end, and the preparations for production have been in place. The project is planned to officially put into production on July 16 in accordance with the joint efforts of the extruder industry for the future of Hong Kong, and will produce tires of specifications to be sold to the domestic market. It is reported that after the first phase is officially put into operation, it can produce 10.5 million tires per year and realize an output value of 3 billion yuan
