Pulping can generally be divided into three methods: chemical pulping, mechanical pulping and chemical mechanical pulping. Chemical pulping is mostly used in China's paper industry. There are three main pollution sources in the process of pulping and papermaking

(1) the wastewater from the pulping section is the black liquor of alkali pulping (pulping) and the red liquor of acid pulping. At present, only a few paper mills in China use alkali pulping. The discharged black liquor is equipped for 4 weeks in the main operation process. It is strictly prohibited for non operators to be the degradation products of lignin and carbohydrates, while the degradation products of carbohydrates exist in the state of metaglycolic acid, which is the main pollutant causing the high BOD value in the waste liquid, The pollutants of acid cooking waste liquor are also the degradation products of lignin and carbohydrates, which is the main reason for the high chemical oxygen demand COD and biological oxygen demand BOD

Trichloromethane is mainly produced during hypochlorite bleaching. The waste liquor also contains more than 40 kinds of organic chlorides, of which various chlorinated phenols are the most, such as dichlorophenols and trichlorophenols

(3) wastewater from pulping and papermaking process wastewater from other sections of pulping and papermaking process, such as white water of paper machine, is called middle section wastewater, which also contains various pollutants. If these wastewater are not treated, it will also pollute the environment, but these wastewater can generally reach the standard after appropriate physical treatment.
